Optimize for Long Tail Keywords

Long-tail keywords are a necessity in generating organic traffic to your website.  You get better results on the SERP of Google and Yahoo by using long-tail keywords because on-page optimization is valued less when trying to improve your search engine rankings of competitive keywords.

Long-tail keywords are also more important because it takes less time and effort to achieve page 1 rankings for “best sony stereo speakers” than a highly competitive term like “stereo speakers”. In addition, Page 2 rankings are of almost no value and generate very little traffic to your site and will not help with your internet marketing campaign.

Eventually, as your site becomes older (site age is valued by google) and you have more links to your site from variety of sources that are both related and unrelated, you will see your search engine rankings improve for the competitive terms as well.  The reason is that as you try to optimize for “best sony stereo speakers”, you are also optimizing for “stereo speakers” at the same time because the core words are in your long-tail keyword phrase.  

To get on the 1st page for competitive keywords you must be patient, build links and become an authority on the topic.
